The 2013 Times Sowetan Retail Awards Survey, conducted by independent research agency TNS, has revealed which retail outlets are succeeding as front-runners in securing spend from South African consumers. To provide greater insight into what drives South African consumerism, this year’s TNS survey was extended to measure the influence of advertising in shaping brand loyalty and shopping habits, particularly when consumer-budgets are tight. Print inserts placed in newspapers were shown to be significant in converting consumers towards making purchases at stores they may previously have been unaware of, or neutral towards. Read more

Johannesburg, 20 November 2012 – In one of the most innovative moves the South African media industry will witness this year, Times Media has announced that as from 1 January 2013 it will be linking advertising rates to the core circulation of all titles including Sunday Times, The Times, Sowetan, SundayWorld, The Herald, Daily Dispatch, Saturday Dispatch, Weekend Post and its Eastern Cape community papers. Linking the advertising rates to core circulation will take effect as soon as ABC’s are published at the end of Q1 2013, and will be reviewed quarterly thereafter. Read more
